Week 5 of the border to border calendar year triple crown is off to a great start.
This week Fresh Ground drove down to support us as we crossed out of Florida and onto the Alabama road walk portion of the hike. 1 state down, only 23 more to go! Florida will be one of the longest states of the whole year though.
With Fresh Ground down here we were eating good and he picked us up many days to drive us to a camp site or motel. Which was so incredibly helpful, as we spent a lot of time hiking on highway 231.
231 was ridiculously busy with trucks constantly whipping past. And barely any shoulder! We had to hike on 231 for about 4-5 days in total, heading into next week as well.
But by the end of the week we were nearing the end! Soon we will be on the Pinhoti trail, then heading north toward the Appalachian trail.
This week we did 209 miles, maintaining our nearly 30 mile a day pace. And we’ve completed 1,033.4 miles in total for the year.
