For me, Evelyn and Rafe, it happened too quickly, they had a good time, they fell in love, probably too quickly (I don't like it when it's too quick) then he decided to leave for the war... they all thought he was dead, including us. Between Danny & Evelyn, I found in their relationship more... Natural ?
No more love but... I also found more complicity, more passion, sincerity, more purity, rarity... I quite simply found their relationship truer, more realistic...
And if I really had to choose, I would like to be loved like Danny loves Evelyn, to be looked at as he looks at her... for me it's pure and true, it's rare, and I haven't found that in Rafe and Evelyn at the start of the film.
So I think we have to look beyond " He stole his girlfriend " no, time has done things, time has done its work, we don't choose who we fall in love with, and I found that their relationship was smooth and natural...
I hate that ending, I never accepted it and I still don't. I will never accept it. The saddest and most tragic ending of any film... Danny deserved better.
