In this video, Steven Blomer and Richard Jones discuss three Jack the Ripper suspects. The three are David Cohen, Nathan Kaminsky, and Aaron Kosminski. All of them were twenty-three years old, and all of them have, at one time or another, found themselves put forward as contenders for the mantle of having been Jack the Ripper. David Cohen was arrested in December 1888 as a wandering lunatic, and, following his appearance at the Thames Police Court was sent to an asylum. When Sir Robert Anderson, who at the time of the Whitechapel murders had been the Assistant Metropolitan Police Commissioner wrote his memoirs, he stated that, contrary to the popular belief, the police had in fact caught Jack the Ripper and that he was a low born Polish Jew living in the heart of the area. Unfortunately, he didn't actually name his suspect. In 1987, whilst writing his book, "The Crimes, Detection, and Death of Jack the Ripper," Martin Fido set out to find whether or not Anderson's suspect could be the Kosminski who had been mentioned by the Melville Macnaghten in a list of three likely suspects. Martin couldn't find any Kosminski who fitted the bill. But he did find a David Cohen, and thus a new suspect was put forward. In this video, Steven and Richard explore what has to be one of the most tangled theories concerning the Jack the Ripper murders.
