This hike is beautiful, and very close to home. We will probably do this fairly often.
Here's some history on the Pirate Peter Easton, who frequented the area in the early 17th Century. https://conceptionbaymuseum.com/2017/06/01/no-colony-for-old-men-peter-easton-in-conception-bay/
**Trigger Warning**
And for those who do not/did not skip over the trigger warning section, here is a link to some information about the young girl Quinn. It mentions that her father was convicted of murder. https://globalnews.ca/news/5056118/nl-murder-butt-trial/
Here is the history of how the Memorial Wall came about, and what all the butterflies are https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/newfoundland-labrador/quinns-memorial-wall-1.4948261
As a survivor of child abuse myself, the wee girl's death is very sad, and makes me angry that her own father could consider such an act. But the memorial set up in her honour, and in honour of other women and girls who have lost their lives, or gone missing, due to domestic violence, is beautiful, and in a beautiful spot, overlooking the bay.
If you, or someone you know is victim to domestic violence, please reach out to someone, anyone who can help. There will be phone numbers and organizations in your area who can help. You don't deserve it. You deserve peace and safety.
