As the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has officially collected black boxes from the crash site of the tragic mid-air collision between an American Airlines jet and a military Black Hawk helicopter, investigators are one step closer to determining how the tragedy took place just outside Washington, D.C. on Wednesday.

Global’s Miranda Anthistle speaks with former American Airlines pilot Richard Levy to get more information from the perspective of an aviation expert.

Levy says the Black Hawk helicopter should have been flying no higher than an altitude of 200ft, however, it may have surpassed 300ft.

He also speaks about the staffing situation at the Air Control Tower.

The plane, flying from Wichita, Kansas, was carrying 60 passengers and four crew members, while three soldiers were aboard the helicopter. No one survived.
