Here’s the crew kicking off our new DCC campaign with one of the most famous level0 funnels.
I’m uploading this more for people to see how I handle it and use it as an idea for how they may run it than to be seen as entertainment. That being said, here are a few disclaimers:
1. I hadn’t run anything at all for more than six months, and DCC in particular for longer.
2. The only players I played with before are Lilith and OGGM, and none of the players have played together before to my knowledge.
3. Before we started the recording, I gave a list of expectations on what funnels are like and how we handle players with multiple characters.
4. I had much less time than I would like to review the DCC rules and the module in particular, so you cannot use my rulings as absolute representations of how it’s supposed to work.
5. I use Luck checks a lot, mostly because I want players to strongly weigh whether or not they want to burn luck to make something happen. I think Luck is a fantastic mechanic and a great way to let the dice decide if interesting things happen. In standard systems, I tend to express this as “how plausible is this? I’ll roll a d6 or a percentile to decide.” There’s nothing wrong with just saying “nope, sorry.”
The good news is that we’re going to keep the train rolling! That means there will be more opportunities to see how play changes as levels increase, and I will be occasionally running more modules for Judges to check out.
