This volume is the part four finale of the "Shadow Series" covering all facets of the Raven Queen along with her most closely associated lore.
Mortals fear death, not only for the pain and loss it brings but for the uncertainty that lies beyond fates event horizon. But all mortals die, that is the very definition of the word. To be mortal is to be subject to death, having a transitory or temporary life.
Death is the inescapable reality that all beings, and whether coward or a king, must ultimately face their own death, it is perhaps the single truth on which there is very little argument.
On the immortal time scales of gods, the Raven Queen stands as a young deity within the 4e pantheon of Dungeons and Dragons, but one that perhaps best captures the reality of this inevitable end. She stands as the lady of winters chilling grasp, the keeper of fates and the dispassionate shepard safeguarding the dead from the blasphemy of undeath.
