The technique we use will train the eye to keep track of the beat, turning rhythmic "clutter" into useful information. This is a big step toward the tremendously valuable skill of being able to look at any piece of sheet music and play it at first sight, while perfecting our sense of rhythm at the same time!
In short, we're sight-reading rhythms with ties, rests and syncopation.
