ABOUT SATURN AS A 'GRAHA' ('SHANI DEVA')
Astronomically, Saturn is the planet that is almost at the end of the solar system. Yes there are other planets that come beyond it but they're much further away in proportion to the inner planets one the other side of the asteroid belt and then the gas super giants that are Jupiter and Saturn.
In the solar system, Saturn actually plays a huge rule in protecting the Earth from vagrant asteroids that can smash into it and end all life. Saturn's gravitation is in many ways a protective shield for the inner solar system.
In 'Vedic' astrology, Saturn or 'Shani' is the planet of hard work, struggle, stamina, resilience, business and discipline.
Saturn can be a very restrictive planet as it teaches through difficulties and often gives the native many problems in the area of life represented by the house that Saturn sits in. This is why most people hope to have Saturn in a good placement and giving good results otherwise they fear bad things might happen to them. At the very least, with a tough Saturn placement, people expect a tough life.
See 'Shani' is the 'deva' of justice and order. That is why it is famously said "Saturn delays but never denies."

Ask anyone who is successful or not so successful. They will tell you that the period between 28-30 was one of the most pivotal periods of their life.
There is a reason for that. It's the 'Saturn Return'.
This event occurs as a result of transiting Saturn through the zodiac, returning to its natal position in the chart. For example if your Saturn is in Capricorn, you will be undergoing Saturn return when transiting Saturn is in the sign of Capricorn in the sky.
Now this is a period of a person's life when they wake up to the biggest challenge in their life. Not only do they wake up to the biggest challenge, they take it head on and learn the lesson of a lifetime with it.
This 'lesson' is what shapes the individual's personality and behaviors for the next 28-30 years of their life. Depending on how willing a person is to work with the energies of struggle and discipline, the individual either ends up winning big in life or faltering until the next Saturn return comes along.
SATURN RETURN IN FIRST HOUSE
Saturn returning in your first house is going to push you to step up your game and take responsibility for your life path. This 2.5 year period is going to feel like Saturn in first house energy in steroids!
Lots of themes of responsibility, health, personal identity, upskilling, dealing with insecurities, shortcomings, fears and criticism, scrutiny, competition and leadership are going to come to the fore.
The native may feel solitary, lonely and overburdened with responsibilities and expectations. The native may have to pick up a lot of slack from people around them such as spouse, colleagues, friends, even neighbors and community.
