In this episode, we uncover the worst damage yet in our DIY farmhouse renovation journey. While stripping back the walls and removing concrete render, we discovered major issues with the wooden joists and lintels in our 120+ year-old stone house. These structural problems are going to set us back significantly and force us to rethink our plans for restoring this abandoned farmhouse in Wales.
Join us as we revisit progress made in November, with help from my Dad and Uncle, and push forward into January despite setbacks. Along the way, we’ll show why using concrete render on stone houses is a huge mistake and share our plans for preserving the character and structure of this old property.
It’s a journey of highs, lows, and lessons learned about restoring stone houses! Thank you for following along. Don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe to see how we navigate this exciting but challenging project.

OUR STORY:
We’re Gav and Nicole, and we’ve risked everything to swap our comfortable city lives for an abandoned smallholding in West Wales.
This 100+ year-old property, along with the 13.5 acres of land, needs a complete renovation after sitting empty for six years. Since we spent everything we had on the move, we’re doing all the work ourselves. It’s a lifetime project, and we’re excited to figure it all out as we go.
