A fantastic documentary written, produced, and directed by Desert Orchid's owner, Richard Burridge. The film follows the fortunes of the great grey from his historic victory in the Cheltenham Gold Cup in March, through to his seasonal reappearance at Wincanton in November, via a long hot summer in the Yorkshire Dales.
The film is narrated by Burridge, and features interviews with David Elsworth, Janice Coyle, Rodney Boult, Simon Sherwood, Colin Brown and Richard Dunwoody, as well as input from fans of Dessie, including the late Mel Smith.
This film was shown on Channel 4 during the 1989 Christmas period. I recorded it on VHS and found it recently in an unmarked box.
I share it here for your enjoyment.
