Sixteenth project in a series using 2 1/2 inch strips to make scrappy quilts! This jelly roll race variation can use even the smallest of leftover 2 1/2" wide strips! Combine all your leftover pieces for a scrappy look or fine tune the color palette for a holiday quilt. If a more cohesive look is wanted use jelly roll strips and some yardage from your favorite fabric designer!
There are endless ways to make this quilt top to match school colors or team colors! Pick your 6 1/2" inch wide band color first OR sew your strips first and then pick, it's all up to you!
And NO! I decided it's not ugly, to me at least! I can see and remember most of the quilts that produced these scraps, it's like a memory quilt to me. Plus, it will still keep somebody warm! Not every quilt needs to be a masterpiece, some can be made to be used and abused!
Stay to the end to see a second quilt done with a variation and an update on the 2 1/2 inch scrap bucket situation! I'm down to ONE bucket! It's might be packed full, but progress is progress, I'll take it!

I've challenged myself to do a new project each month using only 2 1/2 inch strips from my scrap buckets. I have always saved leftover strips from projects and cut up small leftover fabric from yardage into 2 1/2 inch strips and put them in a bucket for some "future" project . The future is now! It is time to tame the scrap bucket and use up these strips. I'll always have a scrap bucket of strips because I'm constantly adding to it Even though I'm down to one bucket, the videos will keep going because I can just start using jelly rolls when my bucket is empty. Let's be honest, it will probably never be completely empty! So join me on this project adventure to use up fabric scraps!
If you don't have leftover strips from other projects to make scrappy quilts, cut up fabrics in your stash into 2 1/2" strips to make the project. No stash of fabric? Head to your local quilt shop and buy a jelly roll or some very pretty fabric to cut into strips! Shop owners are more than happy to help you find the perfect fabric, don't be shy, ask for help if you need it!
