The federal trial of Sean "Diddy" Combs has officially begun in New York with jury selection.
This trial represents a significant fall from grace for one of hip-hop's most influential figures. Diddy, who has been held in a Brooklyn jail since his arrest last September, is facing serious charges including racketeering, sex trafficking, and transporting individuals for prostitution.
Judge Arun Subramanian and the prosecution and defense questioned approximately 150 potential jurors to determine their qualifications to serve on Combs' jury. Four accusers, including R&B singer Cassie Ventura, are expected to testify. Cassie has stated that she will use her real name in court.
Diddy maintains that all sexual encounters were consensual. His legal team argues that he is the target of unfair prosecution and racial bias. Opening statements are scheduled for next week, and the trial is expected to last at least eight weeks. If convicted, Diddy could face life in prison.
