Die-Hard Craftsmanship: Making and Testing DIY Blacksmithing Guillotine Dies

Video Not Working? Fix It Now

In my previous video, I machined a blacksmithing guillotine, or a smithing magician, if you want. However, due to the lack of proper tools, I didn't test it then. But today, that changes. I bought a huge ball bearing for 2 $. Not the ideal steel, but hey, it was a bargain. I cut the ball bearing into sections and battled through its abrasion resistance.

The machining process was intense, with piles of steel chips accumulating. But with patience, I squared the pieces and created mesmerizing surface finishes. After hours of forging and machining, it was time for quenching to harden the steel. Then came dry testing all the dies for smooth movement.

Finally, the moment of truth arrived. I tested each die - isolating, flattening, cutting, and fullering - with satisfactory results, though improvements were noted for the future.
