Hull and Barnsley Railway was completed in 1855 and closed in the main part by 1960. Politics and rivalry were always against the railway and the bigger companies always wanted rid of it. Sadly now a quarrying company is filling in the tunnel portals. Join Team ALW's channel to get access to perks: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCoVL5m-X_RpAK_Uabb9c5nw/join Weedley Tunnel is 132 yards (121 m) long and carries a curvature throughout. Access is unfortunately not available to the public and we are just visiting this tunnel from the east portal, the west portal of weedley tunnel can be seen in the centre of the screen here. Keep watching as we have better luck with the Sugar Loaf Tunnel and we get the chance to see a three arch viaduct on our journey. Sugar loaf’s eastern tunnel portal can be seen here, slowly being buried in the former Riplingham Quarry, operated by Stoneledge Plant & Transport limited which is licensed here to operate as an inert landfill site.
