Dr Mike Lloyd, Director of The CTAD Clinic, discusses strategies for understanding and managing the behaviour of alters that are not liked or wanted (such as those with harmful or disruptive behaviours) within a dissociative system. Key approaches for working with and incorporating alters that may be pushed to the fringe of a system are described. While many of these strategies can be utilised as 'self-help', it is encouraged and advised that a person works through these within a therapeutic context. It is hoped that the methods of managing and understanding the behaviour of such alters can be brought into everyday work with dissociation.
