John Frusciante is currently using the Ibanez WH-10 v3 Wilson mod for the Unlimited Love tour but during the recording in the studio he still used his old favorite the Ibanez WH-10 v1. I was very curious if the Wilson mod actually sounds the same as the v1 so I did the ultimate test! I compared the Wilson mod with an old WH-10 v1, a WF-10 and the standard WH-10 v3. To get the right Frusciante tone I used the BOSS DS-2 in front of the wah pedals and the BOSS CE-1 chorus (for the preamp only) after them.
I must say that the differences were more apparent when I was playing and listening to the sound coming out of the Marshalls. When I listened back to the recording through my studio monitors the differences were more subtle.
