DOG MAN Is Surprising (Movie Review)

Dog Man is the newest film from Dreamworks Animation that is based off of the beloved children's novel of the same name by Dav Pilkey. As someone who read the book when I was younger and remembers this character fondly, does the movie manage to capture the same spirit of the original novel? Does it stand apart in any new or innovative ways? Or does it lack something that truly makes it work?
