First in through the barn doors are Nina and Santinder Maan, who are hoping Dominic Chinea will use his signwriting skills to rescue a shop front sign that is slowly disintegrating. The plywood sign hung on their late mother’s corner shop in a Berkshire village. Prakash owned and ran the community shop selling fresh vegetables and general produce for 27 years. There was always service with a smile, and the shop soon became a hub in the village. Customers often became friends and joined the family for a cup of tea in the back room of the shop. Three generations grew up in the flat above the shop, and Nina and Santinder look back fondly on those years. When they shut up shop for the last time, the family kept the sign as a reminder. But it is now crumbling, the plywood is splitting and the paint flaking away. Dom arms himself with his best brushes and paints, and gets to work.
