A festival of 2'3 narrow gauge. The Talyllyn Railway's 'Anything Goes Gala' is their main enthusiast event of the year, with their entire running fleet showcased to publish in a weekend where quite literally, anything goes! Held over the weekend of the 6th & 7th of July, the event encompassed many aspects of the railway you wouldn't get to see on a regular visit to the line. As usual, the lines operational steam fleet was in action, but a number of background diesel locomotives were also in action. Highlight of the event was visiting 'Falcon' 0-4-2T N.o.10 from the neighbouring Corris Railway, having recently been completed following a two year construction as a new build. The loco joined fellow original 'Falcon' N.o.3 'Sir Haydon' which has been a Talyllyn resident since the early days of preservation. The two made several trips double heading together over the weekend. 0:00 N.o.9 'Alf' 1:02 N.o.11 'Trecwn' & N.o.12 'St Cadfan' 2:16 ‘Toby’ The Motor Trolley 3:06 N.o.7 'Tom Rolt' 5:08 N.o.3 'Sir Haydon' 8:56 Corris N.o.10 17:56 N.o.1 'Talyllyn & N.o.2 'Dolgoch' 26:09 The Cavalcade Other highlights of the weekend included the recreation of the 1974 AGM Special with 'Talyllyn' & 'Dolgoch' hauling a hefty 9 coach train on the Sunday morning of the event. And of course the regular cavalcade of steam locos on the Saturday evening from Tywyn Wharf to Pendre sheds. Mixed fortune for the weather over the two days, but that's to be expected in Wales. Nevertheless, it was a fantastic weekend enjoyed by all. Many thanks to all involved in the planning and running of the event.
