Hello & Welcome to Harnetty Railways
Coming up were racing not 1 but 2 steam trips on Brunel's Great Western Mainline between Bristol & Kingswear.
We start at Bristol Temple Meads were we see A1 Steam Trust's 60163 Tornado arriving from Barton Hill Depot with support coach to collect the coaching stock to form The Torbay Express.
The loco that was originally planned for this trip was Jeremy Hosking's 34052 Lord Dowding aka 34046 Braunton but sadly was not available so at the last min 60163 Tornado stud in.
We headed off straight to the 1st of 2 major lineside spots on today's video looking over from the pier head of the seaside resort of Dawlish were we see the 2 steam trips just 30 mins apart.
We 1st see 60163 Tornado round the curve as the A1 speeds along the coast towards us on the approach to Kennaway tunnel.
Half an hour later we see the 2nd steam trip The Railway Touring Company's The Royal Duchy hauled by The PRCLT's 46233 Duchess of Sutherland the duchess was to enter the history books on this day as she became the 1st member of her class ever to go over Brunnel's Royal Albert bridge into Cornwall.
Here at Dawlish we see her accelerating with her 9 coach load along the coast on the approach to the tunnel.
We now return our attention to 60163 as we head to Paignton to see the A1 get serviced ready for the return trip to Bristol.
Here we see the support crew cleaning and preparing the loco which shows us how grateful we are to these support teams that keeps mainline steam alive for us to enjoy.
After I had lunch in the town we return just in time to see the A1 get coaled before returning to Kingswear to collect the train.
We head off to Dawlish Warren to 1 of the most popular lineside spots on the Western Mainline on the top of Red Rock.
Here we see the A1 racing along the curve towards us heading for Bristol.
We finish this video at Bristol once again as we see the A1 arriving to complete a magnificent round trip before reversing out of the station to shunt the stock away.
