In late 1985, game designers Yuji Horii and Koichi Nakamura had the vision of a perfect game: An RPG with all the sophistication of western computer titles like Wizardry and Ultima, but designed for ease of use in a format that would put it into the hands of millions of kids.

1986’s Dragon Quest became the first step towards that vision, but it was only with the third title that their efforts would truly pay off. And the result was an absolute triumph of game design..

This is my retrospective review of Dragon Quest 3 - the culmination of a vision.
