A little tribute to my favorite drummer Nicko McBrain in honor of his recent retirement from touring with Iron Maiden.
Caught Somewhere In Time is (in my opinion) one of his most impressive performances, featuring a complex mix of doubles and singles on the kick drum, a constant driving ride cymbal groove, and syncopated 16th-note fills cascading over the kit.
It's an incredibly fun and musical drum part to play, thanks to Nicko's usual flair for well-placed, melodic accents that support the bass, guitars, and vocals without sacrificing the relentless, driving feel of the song.
Here's to you, Nicko! Thank you for everything!
