I've been looking forward to duck hunting in South Dakota all season and the first day of our trip didn't disappoint! We had found thousands of mallards, specks, divers, and honkers using this big pothole and knew they were feeding hard on something in there but just couldn't figure out what they were after. We decided to take our kayaks out to a big point in the middle of the slough and try setting a big spread since the ducks were spread out and using the middle of this pothole a lot. Unfortunately we had trouble all morning pulling birds off the rafts of divers and coots out in the middle but we were able to get a few mallards to decoy right in and even picked off a couple unexpected blue-wings.
