Durango and Silverton is a very special railroad. Located in the south west part of Colorado, it's one of the last remaining sections of the original Denver and Rio Grande Western narrow gauge. To this day, they still run the original 100 year old 3 foot narrow gauge locomotives for nearly all of their daily trains. It's an amazing experience and it's documented in this all-new film about the railroad and some history surrounding the line and a special locomotive.
This is the first of three new films to be released in 2023 about the K28 class. Our second film; "Denver and Rio Grande 476 50 years ago in the Snow" will also be out over the summer of 2023, stay tuned for that.
These films were entirely produced by Tyler Purcell and Hayden Morrison, with help from Russell Heerdt and Nick Kogos. They were entirely shot on Kodak 16mm motion picture film, using Aaton XTR camera and Canon 11-165 zoom lens. Both manufactured in the late 1990's. The film stock used was Kodak 50D for the majority of the film, with a mix of 250D and 500T for a few specific segments. The entire film was scanned and finished in DCI-4k, in widescreen 1.85:1 aspect ratio. There will be an article released about the making of this film and the series of three films, released in 2024, so keep an eye out in the trades.
