AIR FRYER CORNISH HENS W/ SWEET CHILI SAUCE INGREDIENTS
1. AIR FRYER - any brand will work well ( PURCHASED @ OLLIE'S FOR 69.99 )
2. CORNISH HENS - 2 or 3 - 2 lb cornish hens
3. ONION POWDER - 2- 3 TEASPOONS
4. GARLIC POWDER - 1 -2 TEASPOONS
5. SMOKED PAPRIKA - 1 - 2 TEASPOONS
6. BLACK PEPPER - 1 -2 TEASPOONS
7. MCCORMICKS ROTISSERIE CHICKEN SEASONING - 1 - 2 TEASPOONS
** Any type of food seasoning can be used **
8. CREOLE OR CANJUN SEASONING - 1 -2 TEASPOONS
9. BUTTER - 1/ 2 STICK TO 1 STICK. SOFTENED OR ROOM TEMPERATURE .
*** OLIVE OIL CAN ALSO BE USED TO COAT THE CORNISH HENS IN PLACE OF THE BUTTER . ***
10. WHITE DISTILLED VINEGAR - 1/2 CUP OR 1 CUP
11. SWEET CHILI SAUCE - 1/2 CUP TO 1 CUP
REDUCING THE SWEET CHILI SAUCE
1. Using a pot on medium heat . Pour in the Sweet Chili Sauce.
2. Stir the Sweet Chili Sauce until it reaches a rolling boil.
3. Turn the heat to Low . Simmer until the sauce is reduced to half. Cut off the heat & set the thicken Sweet Chili Sauce to the side.
CLEANING THE CORNISH HENS
1. Using a large bowl , place the cornish hens into the bowl.
2. Cover with cold water. Followed by the white distilled vinegar . ( 1/2 cup to 1 cup )
3. Soak for 30 minutes or up to 1 hour.
4. Scrub the outside of the cornish hens. Make sure to rinse the inside of the cornish hen cavity.
5. Discard any large pieces of fat.
6. Bend the wing tips behind the breast of the cornish hens.
7. Using paper towels to remove any access water.
SEASONING THE CORNISH HENS
1. Using room temperature butter. Rub the softened butter into the cornish hens .
*** Butter spray, Canola Spray , Olive Oil Spray can also be used in place of the butter . ***
2. Add the onion powder - 1 -2 Teaspoons
3. Add the garlic powder - 1 -2 Teaspoons
4. Add the Canjun or Creole seasonings - 2- 3 Teaspoons
5. McCormicks Rotisserie Seasoning - 1 -2 Teaspoons
6.Smoked Paprika ( or regular paprika ) - 1 -2 Teaspoons
7. Black Pepper - 1 -2 Teaspoons
Make sure to season the inside cavity of the cornish hens.
Continue the butter & seasoning process for both sides of the cornish hens.
AIR FRYER TIME
1. Add the cornish hens breast side up into the Air Fryer basket
2. Push & secure the basket into the Air Fryer.
3. Set the timer to - 390 degrees for 15 minutes
4. After 15 minutes , carefully turn the cornish hens over.
5. Using a spoon or a brush. Baste & completely cover the cornish hens with the Sweet Chili Sauce.
6. Cook @ 390 degrees for 15 minutes
7. Baste the cornish hens again with the sweet chili sauce. Then turn the cornish hens over .
8. Baste the Top ( Breast side up ) with the sweet chili sauce.
9. Cook @ 390 degrees for the FINAL - 15 minutes.
** THE CORNISH HENS SHOULD COOK IN 45 MINUTES. NOTE THE CORNISH HENS VARY IN SIZE . IF MORE COOKING IS NEEDED. COOK AT 5 MNUTE INTERVALS UNTIL DONE. **
COOKING SCHEDULE
1. 15 MINS - BREAST SIDE UP - ( TURN THE CORNISH HENS OVER ) BREAST SIDE
2. 15 MINS - BACK IS ON TOP - ( BASTE THE CORNISH HENS . ) BACK SIDE UP
3. 15 MINS - BREAST SIDE UP - ( BASTE THE CORNISH HENS. )
TOTAL COOKING TIME IS - 45 MINS TO AN HOUR.
Cornish hens are done when the meat juices run clear or a meat thermometer reaches 170 degrees.
When done allow the cornish hens to rest for 15 mintues . Then brush on the Sweet Chili Sauce for the final basting.
