Easy homemade Five cheese lasagna recipe with a homemade meat sauce. I use my homemade marinara sauce to make a hearty meat sauce. This five cheese lasagna recipe has layers of meat sauce, ricotta cheese and a blend of Italian shredded cheeses. Enjoy!
The meat sauce is homemade starting with a oven roasted tomato sauce:
24 Roma tomatoes quartered
Fresh garlic cloves
Fresh basil
Fresh oregano
Olive oil
Balsamic
Salt & pepper
Roast in a deep dish (I used a 9x13 casserole) at 375 for 45-60 minutes. Cool then blend to your preferred consistency.
Meat sauce:
Sauté onions, bell peppers, extra garlic if you’d like.
Add in one pound of ground beef, one pound of Italian sausage.
Cook through then add in marinara sauce (above)
Add half cup of red wine or beef broth
Yep tablespoons of tomato paste (optional)
Turn heat down to simmer and let it go low and slow for two hours stirring occasionally
Ricotta filling:
15 ounce ricotta
Grated Parmesan
2 eggs
Garlic powder
Chopped fresh parsley
Cheese used:
Asiago
Parmesan
Mozzarella
Provolone
Put a small amount of sauce on the bottom of your dish so the first layer of noodles won’t stick or burn
Layer: noodle, ricotta, cheese, meat sauce, repeat
Bake on 375 for one hour
Covered for the first half, then uncovered remaining time so cheese can melt and get all bubbly.
Let rest for at least an hour but the longer to wait go cut the better 😊
