Today I’m going to show you how to make these easy & super fun shower jellies! Shower jellies are a solid (giggly form) of shower gel. Fun to look at & customize and REALLY fun to play with! EVERYONE loves a shower jelly- especially the little ones!
I ended up having to make 4 batches. But I ended up with the perfect recipe & I am going to share that with you!
RECIPE: 2 packs of gelatin (14 grams total or 5 teaspoons), 1 tablespoon table salt, 1 cup distilled hot water, 1/2 cup shower gel (or a different liquid surfactant). UPDATE: This product contains water (so just to be safe) add a preservative once the mixture has cooled to about 115 degrees Fahrenheit (46 degrees Celsius). I'd recommend germall plus (linked below). You can add 5 milliliters of fragrance oil if you wish, although the shower gel used will probably already be scented.
TIPS: *Use 2 packs of gelatin (per 1 cup water) & table salt so your jellies are firm/stable. I think the salt cuts down on foam/bubbles during the liquid phase, so the jelly molds at a more solid/firm state. *Use whichever shower gel you have on hand. *Don’t over-stir when it’s time to mold the jellies; the less bubbles & foam, the better! *You may add 5 milliliters fragrance (I just used scented-shower gel). The entire chapter “Color & Sparkle” is all optional. FREEZING: Place molds on mobile surface for easy travel to the freezer. Then pour jelly mix into molds. Freeze for 1 hour then take them out. ***It is very easy to rip the jellies. So, peel away the sides then gently pull sides outwards while pushing the jelly out from behind. The first jelly I made was gorgeous but it was a total dud; it had absolutely no suds. It took me several batches but I finally figured out it was the salt! Only use table salt! On the way to discovering this perfect recipe, I got to try out several different [not so perfect] recipes. So in conclusion, for 1 cup water: 2 packs of gelatin are better than 1. 1 tablespoon of table salt is a must! And, adding 1 tablespoon of liquid dish detergent adds thick & luxurious foam to the suds! Happy shower jelly-making!!!
Storage: I just put mine on side of the faucet, but I suppose you could put them in a plastic bag or shrink-wrap them (with very light & low heat).
SHELF LIFE: They melt/dissolve under running water & are used up fairly quickly. I wouldn't know if they stand the test of time (I used mine within the first few days).
