Picture frames don't have to be complicated, but the hardest part is always figuring out the math, so here's a quick summary to keep in your back pocket: Formula to figure out the rail sizes: Rail length = picture length + (2 x rail width) - (2 x groove width) Dado depth: I like to always use 1/2 inch which gives space for the glass and a 1/4 backing material as well as the picture, a mat, and the glazing points for keeping everything in the frame.
