Vocal transitions are done by mixing the vocals of the next song with the chorus or outro of the current song. This creates an almost seamless transition since you’re fusing two songs together like a live mashup.

► SCRIPT
Remember. We don’t want to over power the mix. Putting two songs together live is already pushing it, so make sure the song you’re going to put your vocals onto, has a chorus or outro that isn’t too strong and yet leaves some sonic room.
Now, the next song is the trick to this transition. We have to find a song that has a good vocal break without any interfering beat or strong melody. The vocal break can be usually found right after the intro.
So the main idea is to mix this vocal break with the current songs chorus. Then ideally when the chorus ends , the vocal breaks melody kick ins.
Now we can’t do this type of transitioning on the fly (at least for this technique), so we need to first understand and prep our songs.
The chorus of the current song has a total of 32 beats (show it on screen) and the vocal break of the next song, before it’s melody kicks has about 32 beats (show on screen), so the ideal place to mix in the next song will be right when the chorus of the current song drops.
This will ensure that when the chorus ends, the vocals breaks melody will kick in.
Now I understand that most vocal breaks aren’t the same and finding the right section to mark and cue point is difficult. So a quick tip to find that vocal break spot is to use the feature called beat jump,
And to start beat jumping from the songs first beat. So we just jump 32 beats from the first beat and this is where the vocal break starts.
Now we’re sure that if we start the next song here at this section with a beat, each beat will land nicely with the acapella.
Just make sure to cue it at the down beat.
Alternatively, to make this type of transition easier for you guys and to do it on the fly,
you can also transition and mix during the outro of the current song. Since we can rely that the outro will just be a simple beat with no clashing melodies,
Here are a few tips on how to make your vocal transitions better:
1. Make sure your songs are in key
2. Don’t just rely on playing the songs together, also remember to mix and apply proper eq
3. Using the echo effect helps mask this transition and make it sound a lot more smoother when you mix out.
