Before Christian McCaffrey was running all over opposing defenses in a Carolina Panthers or San Francisco 49ers, there was another McCaffrey suiting up on Sundays throughout the 90s and early 2000s, and that was Easy Ed. The first in the McCaffrey family to play in the NFL, Ed was a big-bodied possession receiver coming out of Stanford as an All American receiver before entering the 1991 NFL Draft. He would spend his first few years on an aging but established New York GIants team who featured Lawrence Taylor and Phil Simms, then he spent a quiet year with the San Francisco 49ers, playing alongside Steve Young, Jerry Rice, and Ricky Watters, as the team won Super Bowl 29. But after this, he followed offensive coordinator Mike Shanahan to Denver when he took a job as the Broncos head coach, and for nearly a decade McCaffrey gained fans, and opponents respect as a big, sure-handed route runner, who took some of the biggest hits you'd ever see as he fearlessly went across the middle to make any catch (and he usually did) and he was one of the most valuable wideouts in the run game, as he is known as one of the greatest blocking receivers of all time. So, in Denver he became one of John Elway's favourite targets and one of Terrell Davis' favourite blockers and made up one of the league's best pass catching trios with Rod Smith and Shannon Sharpe. So this Denver Broncos offense in the late 90s, was one of the best as they would win back to back Super Bowls in the 1997 and 1998 seasons, with McCaffrey contributing in a big way. Then he had some of his best years after Elway retired, but a horrific leg injury cut his prime short and sped up his career, but he still managed a productive 13 years in the NFL, but doesn't seem to get his credit as much now that CMC is routinely pulling off highlight plays; but Eddie Mac was old school and made his living off the plays others didn't want to make.
