S01-E14. Learning how to sail a 68 foot Gaff Rigged Herreshoff designed Schooner will go over raising the gaff rigged main and forward sails, trimming those sails, docking and un-docking the Schooner, and tacking (turning the ship through the wind). I will also spend some time profiling the owner and Captain Jordan. The Tall Ship Perception was built in 1985 in New Zealand and was recently acquired from Traverse City, Michigan. It now resides in Chicago, Illinois at 31st St Harbor. Jordan, the current owner, plans on conducting a major refit of the ship in order to get it ready to sail out the St. Lawrence Seaway and into higher latitude sailing. He finds the steel hull to be a distinct advantage for this type of sailing due to the possibility of encountering ice.
