Original notes:
"I've recently seeded a few Gismonti shows, and others have seeded some nice Hermeto Pascoal shows in honor of his 80th birthday. Here's something that combines the 2 of them, but there's definitely some mysteries as to where and when these tracks might've originated. This is from 2 different discs I've gotten over the years in cd-r trades. One has the conventional 3 tracks that you'll see listed in doing a search for this on etree. The other has 6 tracks and claims to date to Berlin in 1984, not 1975. This disc contains an intro in German, not found on the 3 track version, that seems to be identifying the personnel as the players who go along with the 3 track version.
Except for gismonti/pascoal duo track, neither disc seems to have the same material, but even that performance has different track time of over a full minute !?!?!?). There is a Gismonti/Vasconcelos duo show from Berlin in 1984 when they were doing a duo tour in connection with their ECM recording Duas Vozes. Does the Gismonti piano solo and EG/NV duos come from there? Hard to tell because the recordings on disc 2 sound like they're from the same source as each other, and there is a discernable difference from the sound of the 3 tracks on disc one.
This is definitely one for the detectives out there. Having said that, the music contained here-in is terrific, and definitely written and played by Egberto Gismonti. Beyond that, it's pretty mysterious where or when each individual track might have originated. Hoping that anyone downloading this will appreciate what they hear, as they ponder the aforementioned mysteries. Any help in solving them, or in providing names for tracks is appreciated and should be noted in the comments section.
Thanks to those who made these recordings, and who made them available to me. Please support these great musicians by purchasing their commercially released recordings, and by paying to see them live."
Very special thanks to the great senormogul9.
