On the back of a pamphlet, called “The ACO Silo,” there was a massive clay brick and block barn with double ACO silos. The only clue to this barn was the caption below the photo, which read “Recently built for Northland Milk & Ice Cream Co.” I’ve had the pamphlet for many years and the barn and silo location remained a mystery to me. I am very happy to have finally solved this puzzle! Upon researching the Northland Milk & Ice Cream Company, I finally tracked down the owner and location of the barn. It was built for Edwin S. Elwell in Blaine, Minnesota. As an interesting twist of fate, I had actually visited and photographed this barn in 2011. Hear the story of the Elwell Barn, and its part in the evolution of the dairy and milk industry in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
