The EMD F40PH needs almost no introduction with it being one of the most successful and popular locomotives in the United States. It's developed quite the following with many railfans considering it their all-time favorite locomotive, including myself! But how exactly did the F40PH get to where it is today, especially seeing as many are still running today even after nearly 45 years in service?
