In a shocking incident, Cortalim Village Panchayat member Michael D’sa was allegedly assaulted on Monday night around 9:00 pm. The accused has been identified as Krishna Yadav, a native of Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, who is currently residing at Pirni, Nagoa.
The incident unfolded following an argument between D’sa and Yadav, which escalated into a physical assault. Acting swiftly, a police team led by PI Nelson Colaco and comprising PSI Mahesh Bhomkar, Head Constable Videsh Naik (HC 5775), Head Constable Sudesh Kumar Dessai (HC 5767), Police Constable Satish Lakadi (PC 6908), and Police Constable Aravind Channappagol (PC 7898) responded to the complaint and launched an investigation.
Panchayat Members Demand Strict Action
Soon after the incident, Cortalim Panchayat members rushed to Verna Police Station demanding strict action against the migrant accused behind the assault. The incident has sparked outrage among the local body representatives, who expressed serious concerns about the rising involvement of migrants in law-and-order issues within the village.
Accused Arrested
Police have since arrested the accused, Krishna Yadav, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact motive behind the assault.
MLA and Panchayat’s Strong Message to Migrants
On Wednesday evening, Cortalim MLA Antonio Vaz, along with the Panchayat members, addressed the media and issued a strong message to migrants residing in Cortalim and nearby areas. They made it clear that any unlawful activities or attempts to intimidate local elected representatives would not be tolerated. The MLA further assured that strict action will be taken to ensure the safety of locals and to maintain law and order in the village.
