During the winter, apple trees look dead! They shed their leaves and are in a dormant stage. This is the perfect time to prune them. It seems wrong to cut off perfectly healthy branches, but that's just what we are doing this winter. Watch John explain his thought process on pruning various branches.
====================
Newtown Orchard and Nursery is a family-run, small nursery just north of Springfield, Missouri. We are open seasonally and sell vegetable starts, perennials, shrubs, and trees, including many different types of fruit bearing plants. We are also growing an all-natural (as much as we can) apple orchard. Our first big harvest of apples is expected in fall of 2026.
