It is said that Mimata-cho was founded in 1318 when Tsuyo Mishima, the fifth son of the Shimazu family and the estate steward, reclaimed the mountains and the countryside to establish the basic land for Mimata. There are various different traditional performing arts passed down in Mimata-cho, and the characteristics of the performing arts in each region are fully introduced in this video.
The "Janka Uma Odori (Janka horse dance)" is performed in the Nakayone and Kunugida regions. In between the horse dances, a teodori dance (a type of dance where all the performers dance in the same manner) called "Atoyama" is performed.
