Welcome to an exclusive Malayalam video exploring the hidden gem of Ladakh—Turtuk Village. Once a part of Pakistan, Turtuk is a village rich in culture, stories, and breathtaking landscapes. In this video, we dive into the lives of the people, their unique traditions, food, and crops. My day started with a peaceful walk through lush buckwheat fields, where I learned about the village’s major produce—apricots, potatoes, garlic, onions, beans, peas, cabbage, apples, berries, and herbs.
During my walk, I met a local man busy sorting apricots. He shared how they dry and sell the fruit, and even recounted memories from the Indo-Pak war. Apricots were a delightful treat throughout my visit—I enjoyed picking them fresh from the trees and buying some from local children.
One of the most fascinating experiences was discovering Turtuk's natural cold storages, an ancient technique used to preserve fruits, vegetables, butter, meat, and even clothes for years by harnessing the earth’s cool air. Stepping inside one of these natural refrigerators was truly memorable.
I hope this video offers you a fresh perspective and something new to experience. Watch the full episode and don’t forget to share your thoughts in the comments!
