VW Virtus
Price: The Virtus’ prices range from Rs 11.32 lakh to Rs 18.42 (ex-showroom Delhi).

Variants: Volkswagen offers its sedan in two trims: Dynamic Line (Comfortline, Highline, Topline) and Performance Line (GT Plus).

Boot Space: It has a boot space of 521 litres.

Engine and Transmission: Volkswagen has put two engines on offer: a 1-litre turbo-petrol unit (making 115PS and 178Nm) and a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol (150PS and 250Nm) engine. The smaller unit is paired with a standard six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic, while the bigger one gets a seven-speed DCT (dual-clutch automatic).

Features: Its list of features includes a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, push-button start/stop, and a fully digital driver display. Other amenities include a single-pane sunroof, connected car tech, a wireless phone charger, ventilated front seats and rain-sensing wipers.

Safety: Passenger safety is ensured by up to six airbags, electronic stability control, hill hold assist, ISOFIX child seat anchorages and rear parking sensors.

Rivals: The Virtus locks horns with the Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City and the Skoda Slavia.

Skoda Slavia
Price: The Slavia’s prices range between Rs 11.29 lakh and Rs 18.40 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Variants: It is offered in three trims: Active, Ambition and Style.

Boot Space: The Slavia comes with a boot loading capacity of 521 litres.

Engine and Transmission: The Slavia shares its engine options with the Kushaq: a 1-litre turbo-pertol unit (making 115PS and 178Nm) and a 1.5-litre turbo mill (150PS and 250Nm). Both engines are mated to a six-speed manual transmission as standard. For automatic options, the former gets a six-speed torque converter and the latter is paired with a seven-speed DCT (dual-clutch automatic).

To offer improved fuel efficiency, the 1.5-litre engine turns off two of the four cylinders under less load using cylinder deactivation technology.

Features: Features on board the Slavia include an eight-inch touchscreen, cruise control, and automatic climate control. An eight-inch digital driver’s display, a single-pane sunroof and ventilated front seats are offered on the top-spec Style trim.

Rivals: The Skoda Slavia squares off with the Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City and Volkswagen Virtus.

Taigun
Price: Prices for the Taigun range between Rs 11.56 lakh and Rs 18.71 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Variants: Volkswagen offers the Taigun in two broad trims: Dynamic Line and Performance Line.

Engine and Transmission: There are two turbo-petrol engines on offer: a 1-litre engine (making 115PS and 178Nm) and 1.5-litre unit (150PS and 250Nm). Both units are paired wirh a six-speed manual transmission as standard. In the automatic models, the smaller engine gets a six-speed torque converter, while the bigger one gets a seven-speed DCT.

Features: Features on board the Taigun include a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, connected car tech, an eight-inch digital instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, a single-pane sunroof and auto climate control.

Safety: On the safety front, it has up to six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and a rear-view camera.

Kushaq
Skoda Auto India has launched the Kushaq mid-size SUV in the country. The model is based on the MQB-A0-IN platform that also underpins the Volkswagen Taigun.

Powertrain options on the new Skoda Kushaq will include a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder TSI petrol engine producing 113bhp and 178Nm of torque, as well as a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, TSI petrol engine producing 148bhp and 250Nm of torque. A six-speed manual unit is standard while the 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre versions get a six-speed automatic unit and a seven-speed DSG automatic unit as an option, respectively.

Rivals: The Taigun is a rival to the Hyundai Creta, Toyota Hyryder, Maruti Grand Vitara, Kia Seltos, Nissan Kicks, Skoda Kushaq and MG Astor. Also, the Mahindra Scorpio Classic can be considered a rugged alternative to VW's compact SUV.
