देश की सबसे पुरानी पार्टी अतीत की पार्टी बनने की तरफ़ बढ़ रही है। लगातार तीन लोकसभा चुनाव हारने के बाद भी कांग्रेस की हार का सिलसिला रुका नहीं है। लोकसभा के बाद विधानसभा चुनावों में हारते हारते उसकी सत्ता तीन राज्यों में सिमट गई है । वहाँ भी तेलंगाना को छोड़कर उसकी सरकार हिचकोले खा रही है । अगले लोकसभा चुनाव से पहले जिन राज्यों में विधानसभा चुनाव होने वाले हैं उनमें से केरल को छोड़कर किसी भी अन्य राज्य में उसके सत्ता में आने की संभावना नहीं दिख रही। इस सूची में वे तीन राज्य भी शामिल हैं जहां कांग्रेस की सरकार है । लोकसभा और विधानसभा चुनाव हारने के बाद अब स्थानीय निकाय के चुनाव में कांग्रेस हार के नये कीर्तिमान स्थापित कर रही है ।
