Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park is one of the MUST VISITS on Java Island, Indonesia.
The national park is actually build on the caldera of an ancient mountain called Tengger. Within its caldera (aka. the sea of sand) another volcano emerged which is the renowned Mount Bromo. An active volcano that erupts roughly every five years. It is now possible to hike it up to get a look inside the roaring crater. Although the Bromo Tengger Semeru national park is quite touristy, it's a very exciting place to visit on Java Island.
Flo and I, rented a scooter and decided to drive there by ourselves through the midst of the "sea of sand" next to mount Bromo. When cloudy the area looks like a moon-desert like landscape. We escaped a thunderstorm, and hiked up to a viewpoint to enjoy the sunrise over Mount Bromo and Semeru. Funny enough, we convered a small eruption on Mt. Semeru in the background by coincidence.
