Mom and I explored some quilt shops of the midwest and they were amazing. We went to visit my aunt and within a 15 miles radius of her home there were at least 3 quilt shops that blew my mind. Right across the street was Fern Hill. Fern Hill hasn't always been Fern Hill. My grandparents lived right next door and that old store has been many things. Now it is 3 levels of scrumptious goodies. There is the basement that houses a collection of antiques that will make you drool if you are the antiquing type. Floor 1 has unique gifts tucked in among more treasures from the past along with handmade gifts perfect for that individual in your life that has everything. But in the attack is my favorite part of the boutique - the quilt shop. Over 5000 bolts of fabric arranged beautifully by designer including Tim Holtz and Stephanie Brandenburg. As a matter of fact, Stephanie Brandenburg who is a designer for Northcott Fabrics is the daughter of the owner of Fern Hill. I'm not even going to tell you how much money I spent there. I haven't been able to find Tim Holtz in any of my local quilt shops, but his unique fabric collection was among those 5000 bolts.
Along with the fabric collection I purchased in that wonderful candy shop of quilting fabric, the owner shared with me that her daughter had recently opened her own studio not 15 minutes away. Stephanie Brandenburg creates beautiful works of art that Northcott then turns into beautiful pieces of fabric. But that treasure trove is for sharing another day. Today we are spelunking in fabric cave Fern Hill where you will see works of fabric art rivaling the most beautiful stalactites and stalagmites in the caves of the US.
