In this continuing video series (building on the other tutorials I have created) these lessons are focused on techniques artists from beginners to advanced painters interested on gaining better skills in Gouache. I am using a subject I have plein air painted before - a ancient Italian hill town built into and in top of a volcanic butte in Northern Italy. The tutorial stars from the initial pencil sketch, first adding a complex background of skies and clouds then moving onto stone and brick buildings constructed into the cliff faces.
The next step is shape design painting, contrasts, mixing complimentary colors and what sort of brushwork best defines various texture, surfaces and lighting and shadows. For beginners its a great introduction to glazes, layering different colors and ultimately those last little details that complete a composition and painting.
