It is simple. If you want to improve at Euro Nymphing, you must become a caster. It is the difference maker.
Being a great caster has NEVER been a hindrance, it only makes you better (No matter what type of fishing you do). But, not only do you want to have the basic fundamental cast down, you want to be able to expand on it. Don't become one-dimensional. This will allow you to tackle any situation. You'll be able to adjust your angles based on current speed and depth. Cast under trees. Cast when you have obstructions behind you. You know how to deliver your bugs based on any situation. The better you get at casting, the more it becomes muscle memory and it just becomes natural. The most important thing is you will NOT be lobbing anymore.
Moving away from lobbing and becoming a caster is the biggest separator in Euro Nymphing. It WILL take you from Good to GREAT.
Join me on the stream as I fish (and catch!) brown trout and talk about the different types of casting that you encounter in a day's fishing.
Hope you enjoy.
Tight lines,
Cory
