This week the top leaders from the UK , France and Ukraine met to discuss plans for how a European troop deployment to Ukraine might look, in the event that a peace agreement is reached. This plan is now being floated at the highest levels of government. But There’s a ton of misinformation and clickbait and alarmism going around out there, So let's take a deeper look together at what’s really going on here - why this idea is being considered again and under what conditions it might happen.

John Paul Rathbone wrote a great article the Financial Times titled “will europe put boots on the ground in Ukraine?” I got a lot of the information for this episode from there, and in it he outlines how Macron met with Zellensky on monday January 21st to discuss the possibility and he is also in talks with the prime minister of the UK Sir Keir Starmer on the topic. To me this signals what I like to call in diplomatic language a vibe shift. It’s slowly becoming more okay to say “lets send european troops to Ukraine” in polite company.
