Believe or not, 4 different states in the United States used to be full-fledged countries – those being Texas, California, Hawaii, and Vermont. The latter of which I saved for last because there’s an underlying pattern that happened with all of these countries that didn’t happen with Vermont, and it explains a lot about the United States today and its past history. But, I don’t think you will truly understand what it is until you hear all of their histories.
