Everything About Piaggio Purchased by Baykar
Piaggio, an Italian aviation industry pioneer with roots dating back to 1884, was sold to Baykar, the manufacturer of Turkey's national UAVs and now a dominant player in the global UAV export market, a key actor in the development of world aviation.
In this video, we will take a closer look at Piaggio's historical journey and its sale to Baykar.
Founded in 1884 by Rinaldo Piaggio near Genoa, Piaggio initially focused on producing ship equipment, trains, railway equipment, and engines. The company entered the aviation industry in the 1910s, during World War I.
In 1917, the company began aircraft production and in 1922, it produced its first model, the Piaggio P.1.
Until 1957, the company experimented with many models of the P series, creating prototypes and production models across a wide range of categories, from training aircraft to heavy bombers, fighter aircraft to commercial transport planes.
From its early years, Piaggio placed significant emphasis on engine production, making notable contributions in this field. In the 1930s and 1940s, Piaggio focused on producing piston engines, with its engine production centered around radial engines. Piaggio not only produced engines based on its own designs but also licensed designs from other engine manufacturers.
These engines were used in both civilian and military aircraft.
