This educational, historical, and narrative documentary video provides a high level viewpoint of gasoline, fuel, and auto service stations and how they changed as the automobile changed. From the early 1900's up until today, I discuss briefly historical buildings as well as time periods such as gas rationing during WWII, the start of Self Service, then Pay at the Pump, and even what happened during the energy crisis of the 1970's. You will see car dealerships as well as cars from Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge, Plymouth, Durant, Volkswagen, Studebaker, Packard, Chrysler, Dodge, Desoto, LaSalle, Cadillac, Lincoln, Mercury, Oldsmobile, Pontiac and even more. You will also gas and service stations from independents, old general stores, hardware stores that also sold gasoline, and name brands like Aetna, Amaco, Associated, Ashland, Clark, Cities Service, Chevron, Conoco, DX, Esso, Gilmore, Goodyear, Gulf, Hi Speed, Indian, Marathon, Mobile, Pepper, Phillips 66, Pure, Red Crown, Richfield, Sears, Seaside, Sinclair, Sobol, Sohio, Standard, Skelly, Sunoco, Union 76, Texaco, Flying A Service, Rio Grande, Signal, and more selling their fuel and oil products. You will learn how gasoline was originally dispensed and how the invention of the gas or kerosene fuel pump by Sylvanus Bowser of Fort Wayne, Indiana. You will also get a snapshot view point of how these products were delivered by horse and wagon, trucks, and even the railroad. 🔵ATTRIBUTION 🔵 The original photos of the Gilmore girls were captured and created by by Allan Grant courtesy Life Magazine. Here is some additional history associated with those images. The Gilmore gas station was one of the first gas stations in Los Angeles. The first self-service Gilmore gas-a-teria was built in 1948. According to LIFE magazine, in October 1948, some 75 Southern California entrepreneurs listened to the profitable clicking of their gasoline pumps, congratulated themselves warmly. The self-service gas station, California's newest contribution to the drive-in way of life, was a smashing success. All photos used in this documentary are for educational and commentary purposes.
