Sugar, rice and cocoa play a large role in our daily lives. But the way we consume these products has a devastating impact on small farmers and the environment: in the Philippines, Thailand and the Amazon forest, the rules of international trade are destroying nature and forcing people to accept unbearable working conditions. Yet, there are some real alternatives. International trade expert and social entrepreneur Tristan Lecomte travels around the world to meet small-scale producers. He knows that simple solutions already exist, which enable us to develop economic growth, protect social welfare while respecting the environment. Enterprising farming communities prove this on a daily basis and it is these solutions that Tristan wants to bring to our attention. Tristan will meet the main actors and decision-makers of these huge economic sectors: politicians, traders, powerful lobbyists and CEOs of worldwide agro-processing companies. But he will also take us on a discovery of this other world, in which certain farmers and co-operatives have refused an unfair economic model, offering instead realistic alternative solutions.
